People have been making, and failing to keep, New Year’s Resolutions for almost 4,000 years according to Insideout Mastery. On average, 25 percent of people quit following their resolutions by the end of the first week of the year.

Here are some suggested New Year’s Resolutions for the Workplace that we all should strive to keep throughout the year.

Be Kind to Everyone

Co-workers, bosses, customers vendors… Take the time to be polite and respectful. This means no gossiping! Gossip is intended to hurt and serves no useful purpose unless you are trying to create drama and tension in the workplace. Being nice will go a long way to making the workday more pleasant and your job easier.

Show Up, Both Literally and Figuratively

This means getting to work on time, ready to perform the job duties that you are being paid to do. And while you are at work, give the job your full attention and best efforts. When you complete your assigned duties, let your supervisor know that you are available to help with other tasks.

Learn New Skills

Take the initiative to learn about new trends and products in your industry. Enhance your knowledge by reading articles about the business world and your community to learn about things that may impact your workplace. Take continuing education courses to increase your value to the company.

Volunteer to Help, Even When It’s Not Your Job!

Offer to help with tasks that need to be done, to assist a co-worker who is struggling to meet a deadline, to tackle a problem that is holding the company back from even greater success.

These simple New Year’s Resolutions, if adopted and carried out the entire year, will result in you becoming a valued partner in your company and make the workplace a more enjoyable place to be.
